No one ever said the Caldecott Award was awarded to "easy reading" books! This is a story told through drawing and text to inspire middle school students as well as their parents. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is a blend of magic, mystery, and old time movies all wrapped up in an intriguing story of a boy who lives in the subways of Paris. Hugo, and his resourceful sidekick Isabelle, conspire to solve the mystery of the origin of an automaton who holds secrets of great interest to both of them.
See the Maillardet Automaton at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.
I loved the movie of the automaton at the Franklin Institute. The author of the book was in the movie!
